What is the difference between a Cancellation and a Dismissal?

A Cancellation occurs when you stop an eviction prior to it being filed with the Clerk of Courts.  When this happens, you won't be charged the Clerk of Courts Filing Fees, and there won't be a record of the eviction in courthouse records.

A Dismissal occurs when you stop an eviction after it's been filed with the Clerk of Courts.  Since the Clerk has already been paid, there cannot be a refund of the filing fees, and even though you won't be proceeding with the case, there will still be a record of it at the courthouse.
